The "Lost" Conquer Client

1
So, while on adventures around the internet, I ran into this.

This is an old screenshot of Alpha Conquer, in China.
If we look at early conquer clients, in data/main1, we see a few left over assets from this version.

I think this green UI looks amazing, and I was wondering if anyone has the client, or has any more information about it.
It may have other interesting tidbits in it too, I always find it interesting that older Conquer clients contain unused spells, such as Dispel, or Random Teleport, so I think it would be interesting to look at if it could be found.

The "Lost" Conquer Client

More on this, while searching, I found a defunct patch log with the dates for various milestones in the chinese servers.
It isn't super useful on it's own, but maybe can be added to the patch notes thread in some supplemental way.

[poorly translated transcription]
2003/01/31 Closed beta
A large-scale fantasy martial arts online game "Conquest", which is completely developed by the game makers of Tianqing Digital Entertainment Company (TQdigital.com) and has traditional Chinese martial arts characteristics, has been officially tested internally. In just a few weeks, I walked into thousands of households and Internet cafes of all sizes in the streets and alleys.

2003/04/27 Public Beta
"Conquest" 1.0 official open beta, that is, at this time, many players were conquered by this game. At that time, in the Ssangyong meadow, do you still remember the scene when more than a dozen people ravaged a chicken called Tianji? At that time, there were players all over the world who were chatting about and asking for upgrades. At that time, you couldn't afford to hurt someone who was killing for a few taels of silver.

2003/09/11 Point card consumption
At that time, players did not understand what a large monthly subscription was and what a small monthly subscription was. At that time, point cards were very expensive because there was no timer until level 15. Some players used their home phones to purchase more than 10 large cards, all of which were charged for timekeeping. Of course, I also got a lot of dragon balls and shooting stars that were very precious at the time.

2005/07/05 The world of wind and cloud
When there were more meteors and dragon balls, everyone already understood the importance of equipment. The quality of equipment (from good quality to top quality) can no longer meet the needs of players. Players have begun to pursue equipment to open holes, 1 hole, 2 holes, etc. At the same time, various game processes began, with archers leading the numbers and warriors going to the training ground to upgrade their levels. Of course, there are also people who specialize in cheating on popular equipment.

2006/01/12 Version 1.6
On the basis of 1.5, providing convenient functions is the most significant change. (Free PK, trading, chat, etc.) At the same time, a large-scale server merger also started during this period. Let players meet new friends. Version 1.6 has opened a level cap of 138, and some forgotten tasks have also begun to give experience pills. Players started a new round of battle on these mission maps.

2006/06/30 free server
"Wanli Mountains and Rivers" - the first free server has been opened. "Conquest" has entered a new operating model. It is no longer a single point card charge, replaced by a Tianshi store. A wide variety of prop merchandise. It facilitates operations such as upgrading and building equipment for players, greatly improving the convenience of the game.

2007/09/10 The storm rises again
The function of 2 reincarnations is enabled. The 2nd round map became the favorite place for players at that time and the place they often stayed. Purchasing more mission items and completing the second mission as soon as possible became the first goal of the players at that time. The new career reincarnation mode has also become popular among players. The mainstream PK reincarnation method is also gradually spreading among players.

2008/08/21 Goonies
This version has the combat capability feature enabled. It also has a combat effectiveness protection system. At the same time, two heaven-defying magic weapons, "Lingxiao Fan" (which increases the final damage) and "Hunyuan Tower" (which reduces the final damage), airborne. The monsters in the game will no longer be so scary, enhancing the player's ability to survive.

2009/05/13 Zongma Jianghu
Immediately fly vertically and horizontally, once again fulfilling the player's martial arts dream. All kinds of BMWs appeared out of nowhere, including Bihu horses, little cows, zebra horses, fire horses, and lava horses. Immediately’s heroic attitude is irresistible to players. The most important thing is that the horse has HP bonus, physical attack, magic attack, and settings linked to combat power to keep players excited.

2010/05/13 Legend of the Divine Weapon
The soul turned out to enrich the gameplay of the game. The new map has become everyone’s new favorite. Those who like to upgrade will play in Bing 3 or Bing 4. Those who like to play Cultivation, Soul, and Tempering will play in Bing 5 or Bing 6. The sub-career system has also become popular. In order to have stronger attributes, players work day and night to earn training, just to complete the great cause of training as soon as possible.

2010/11/12 Dragon Subduing Monk
The oriental warrior monks came to conquer the world. Whether it's a one-on-one challenge or a group attack, it's a powerful profession. In those days when gangs fought against gates and pillars, the monk's 3-hit combo completely solved the problem of difficulty in breaking through city gates and pillars. The arrogant and domineering evil dragon from another land is like a small insect in front of the monk. I have to admit that the name of the Dragon Subduing Monk is particularly appropriate.

horse fighting 2011/06/23
Riding the horse and raising the whip, the whip comes to conquer this land. The horse is no longer a decoration, and the riding whip allows the horse to truly participate in the battle. Don't worry about being knocked down by monsters. In the riding state, physical strength recovery is accelerated by 3 times, and you no longer have to worry about running out of physical strength and killing people fast enough.

The voyager's arrival 2011/12/02
Caribbean navigators were all the rage, and Conquest seized the opportunity to launch a new profession - navigator. Super powerful melee combat, convenient long-range attack, conquest is no longer a single era of cold weapons. Added new navigator weapons - rapier and pistol. The navigator also pioneered the first weapon in conquest that blessed life attributes.

So, I've just "started" to look for it, by searching google in chinese (thanks google translate) - we have client archives around, and there are chinese pservers, so I figured maybe someone had done something similar for the chinese clients. I managed to find this page:

google translate version:
https://news-17173-com.translate.goog/c ... _tr_pto=sc
original link:
http://news.17173.com/content/2003-4-5/n627_543770.html

The download links all appear to be dead - but that's to be expected.

So, the link for the page seems inaccessible outside of using google translate (great firewall of china?) anyway, we know that the file is called ConquerA3.exe, which I'd assume mean that we would be looking for a ConquerA2.exe, ConquerA1.exe for Alpha 1, Alpha 2, Alpha 3. We also know that the client should be around 180MB.

It at least gives us something to search for, or keep an eye out for.

The "Lost" Conquer Client

Okay, last post, I promise, but I keep finding interesting things on this little adventure, and I didn't want to make a new thread for this, even though I could get one.

I always wondered what this interface was:
Image
So while looking for old chinese clients (the earliest version I could find information about is called "Stormy World" <<风云天下>>) and I kept seeing reference to a refining system, and I was like, I can't think of a refining system. And then I found the tutorial page for it.

https://zf.99.com/guide/item/lhxt.shtml
Refining is a process of turning decay into magic, and the items obtained in the game can be used to ask for help from the Qiankun Five Elements Furnace. The success rate of refining is based on the success rate of each item placed in the furnace; If the refining is successful, you will receive the item "+1 Red Refining Stone".

For example, if you have a +1 knife and want to synthesize +2, you don't need to go to the market to buy or farm monsters, as long as you refine two +1 red refining stones, you can synthesize your knife into +2!

Refining requires a certain amount of time, but now it can be refined at any time. Only players who must be level 90 or higher can refine it. Go to the coordinates in the market (320,224) and find the Qiankun Five Elements Furnace to refine equipment and some items, and the final result of refining is a universal gem "+1 Red Refining Stone" that can be used to increase the level of weapons and equipment!

Currently supported refining items:
1. Equipment of various qualities. Note that if it is a weapon of ordinary quality, the durability of the weapon must be less than 50%;
2. Meteors, Meteor Tears, Dragon Balls;
3. Gemstones of various qualities;
Items that are not within the above range are also allowed to be placed in the furnace, but do not increase the chance of refining.

Refining Steps:

1. Put the items you want to refine into the furnace, and click the "OK" button, and the success rate of this refining will appear from the accumulation of all props, and a maximum of 20 weapons and equipment or props are allowed to be put in for refining at a time;

2. Click the "Refining" button, if successful, "Red Refining Stone +1" will appear in the backpack; Regardless of whether it is successful or not, the items placed in the furnace will disappear.
Image
Okay, so we can play with that.
So from testing, it appears that these are the rates (within the 4274 client):
Normal: 1.5%
Refined: 3%
Unique: 10%
Elite: 35%
Super: 75%

Dragonball: 80%
Meteor: 3.2%

Normal Gem: 10%
Refined Gem: 25%
Super Gem: 100%
The UI is fully functional, although some of the status messages that appear at the top are non-readable, although I assume that can be fixed with an edit to StrRes.ini, and it sends packets. So packet time!
Image

so we've got what I'll tentatively call "MsgPlusRefine" for lack of the actual name.

MsgPlusRefine - 1028
Offset || Data Type || Description || example
0 || UINT16 || Packet Length || 14 [10+(4 * itemcount)]
2 || UINT16 || Packet Identifier || 1028
4 || UINT32 || <unknown> || 08 00 00 00
8 || UINT16 || <unknown> || 0
10 || UINT16 || ITEM COUNT || 1
12+ || UINT32 || ITEM UID 1 etc. || 1337

The UI accepts anything between 1 and 20 items, and the chance is displayed in the UI, each additional item adds to the success rate the way you'd expect, so 2 unique items is a 20% chance, and the chance cannot go above 100%. When you attempt to put normal items into the UI, it'll give you a strange error unless the dura of the item is lower than a certain percent - the website claims 50%, but the message has 20% in it, so I'm guessing that's the threashold, but more testing required on that front - although I'm not sure why you'd want to allow people to use normal items.

The reward for the refining process is a +1 stone (which in 1.0, is called a CraftStone), the "level" value indicates the + value of the stone, although I've only ever seen it show level 1, I guess they originally intended to allow you to make higher level stones this way, but changed their minds. Oh, and you cannot place items with +s inside the UI window, but can place random things like potions, that don't add to the odds at all.

So, that's everything I know about that. I may try and implement it just for fun. :D

Oh, and to Open the UI itself you send the OpenDialog packet, the same one you use to open the gem socket window, you just use a value of 2 instead of 1, which is 1010, subtype 186 in 4274

The message is called MsgFuse. I can't remember if it appears in the Soul project or not, but I've seen some private servers repurpose it. Like in Apex Conquer where you could dump a ton of meteors into that interface through scrolls or loose items, and have it run through them all to attempt to socket an item also included in the interface.

It is not in Soul project, it was added in the Conquer branch. Percentages come from fuse.ini and AFAIK, the feature was available in Chinese CO even in later patches (i.e. there is a NPC for it in Market in the leaked binaries). Still giving +1 stones if it succeeds.

It was never added to the English version, so the interface was never fully translated.

Oooo, that's super interesting, I see the rates there, although the itemIDs are in a strange format, not the one I'm used to seeing.
Here's the 80% from dragonballs [attached picture].

Hmm, so it seems that 2 at the front indicates it's a "full" itemID, such as a meteor or dragonball, and a 1 indicates it's an item category.
1000050003=150
The 500 makes sense here, it's bows, it's clearly bows.
the first 03 doesn't make a whole lot of sense. it isn't the bow level, since it goes up to 55, and there's no bow 55, it caps at 29.
the final number is likely the quality, with 3 being the low-normal type.
That middle number (for bows) goes from 0-5, although I've not found a case where the middle number has a different percentage chance to any of it's quality variants, but it's a large file and I'd have to check that for certain, but sometimes it is fun to play "guess what they were thinking."

Also, according to this, meteor tears have double the chance of success to meteors, at 6.4%. That's a very odd life choice they made there.

So, not the client I was originally looking for, but in terms of clients, you can patch an english early 2.0 client (4294) using the chinese patches from 1.0 -> 2.0 (3000 -> 3283) and get a functional client, since all the ui stuff gets updated during those patches.
